Abstract

Apart from a number of issues of Astounding Stories, it seems the last book Salive acquired was by the Glaswegian SF writer Gary Gibson. Empire of Light, published by TOR in 2011, is the third of four books in Gibson’s Shoal Sequence, which features character such as Dakota Merrick, Lucas Corso and the alien Trader-in-Faecal-Matter-of-Animals, a fish-like member of the Shoal race. Salive owned the first – Stealing Light (2007) – but not the second: Nova War (2009). As with many such publications, there is always a publisher’s puff. Empire of Light has the by-line: ‘Humanity is on the brink’. (Cover artwork by Lee Gibbons.)
