Abstract
It is fitting that the life of John Francis Regis (1597-1640) was on the shelves of a Jesuit College library. Regis began his Jesuit studies at Toulouse aged 19, and from all accounts, he was a tireless priest who spent his entire life caring for the poor and marginalised. He was beatified by Pope Clement XI on 18 May 1716, and canonised by Pope Clement XII on 5 April 1737. The inscriptions on the title-page indicate that this book was once in the library of a Jesuit College at Colosani. ‘Dono P. Jacobi Vaniere e Soc Jesu’ indicates that it was given to the College by Jacques Vanière (1664-1739), a Jesuit poet known as the ‘French Virgil’.
