SF and Fantasy artist Michael Whelan (b. 1950) has illustrated covers for some of the greats – Alfred Bester, C.J. Cherryh, Larry Niven, Isaac Asimov and Jo Clayton. Voted ‘Best Professional Artist of the Last 50 Years’ at Worldcon in Orlando, Florida in 1992, Whelan produces SF and Fantasy artworks that are colourful and finished to an incredibly high standard. He has not limited himself to books and magazines and has provided album artwork for the Jacksons’ Victory and Meatloaf’s Bat Out of Hell II. Described by Wikipedia as an ‘artist of imaginative realism’, Whelan has won numerous awards including 15 Hugos.
