Frances James Blight (1858-1935) was Chairman and Managing Director of the publishing firm Charles Griffin & Co. from 1899 until 1927. Joseph Mellor and Blight corresponded from about 1910 with regard to two of Mellor’s works, published by the firm: A Treatise on Quantitative Inorganic Analysis (1913) and Clay and Pottery Industries (1914). This letter to Mellor confirms the title of a volume, even though there was a slight difference in print. In an earlier letter (1910), Blight highlighted the fact that ‘Booksellers and Librarians like a title easily catalogued and yet suggestive of what the book contains.’
