Originated the New Edinburgh or Otago Scheme in 1842 though soon superseded by Cap Cargill & Rev. T. Burns & was appointed Governor of the Falkland Islands in 1847. I procured from his son, Sir Richard Rennie, the gift of his portrait now in the Dunedin Art Gallery. T.M.H
