The bookplate of the Honorable Thomas Trevor Esq, is a fine example of an armorial bookplate. The Arms of Trevor are described as ‘Party per bend sinister ermine and ermines, a lion rampant or’ which in heraldic terms is simplified as ‘Party’, signifying that the field of the shield is divided; and the ‘Bend’, a straight piece extending from the ‘sinister’, that is, the left hand side. Ermine, the fur most frequently used in heraldry, covers the shield. In the middle is a rampant (rearing) lion in gold (Or). The Trevor family had Welsh associations, which would explain the presence of a dragon
