Abstract
Peter Seton Hay (c. 1852-1907) was one of Professor Shand’s successful students at the University of Otago, who in 1878 secured a first class MA Honours degree in Mathematics. Hay went on to become a noted engineer, famed for the railway viaducts that he designed.
