Abstract
The nature of clothing and cloth is such that it requires regular cleaning and care, and someone has to do it. The washerwoman remains the archetype for drudgery, and the washing machine is among the greatest labour-saving inventions of modern times. Washing machines have developed apace for both domestic and commercial use; the latter requiring a good working knowledge, especially those with boilers. This book provides various technical details such as how to achieve a good enough head of steam to boil the laundry with particular ratios of cloth weight to steam pressure.
