Abstract
The British Antarctic Expedition, or the Nimrod Expedition of 1907 to 1909 was the first of three led by polar explorer, Ernest Shackleton. The expeditionary party came together in New Zealand and sailed for Antarctica on the 1st January, 1908. Geographical and scientific observations were made throughout the trip and the team made the first ascent of the active volcano, Mount Erebus – seen on this map in the bottom right hand corner.
