Abstract
Traditionally, pharmacists and doctors wrote prescriptions in Latin and needed a good understanding of certain aspects of the language. This 1847 book contains all of the Latin words, phrases and abbreviations used in writing prescriptions with English translations. Jonathan Pereira was born in London in 1804, trained as an apothecary and a physician and lectured in chemistry and materia medica (medical substances). He was the author of multiple articles and books. His book, Materia Medica, was the first great English work on what we now call pharmacology.
