Description

A letter to the Chancellor of the University of Otago from Emily Siedeberg, dated March 10th 1891, York Place. 'To the Chancellor of the Otago University -- Sir -- Having passed the necessary preliminary examination, I desire to enter myself as a student in the medical school of the Otago University, with the view ultimately of proceeding to a degree in medicine. As I understand that up to this time no women have taken the course for a medical degree, I should be glad to learn whether it is competent for me to attend the medical classes, and, in case of my successfully passing the examinations, to take a degree in medicine. -- I am, Sir -- Your obedt sevt. -- Emily Siedeberg'.
