March 1849. WA McCleverty; verso in ink in H.S. Chapman’s hand: For further description see my letter of Feb.y 22 1851 No 2. H.S.C.; verso in ink in Henry Chapman’s hand: Received by London Post 1st Aug.t 1851; verso in pencil: W. McCleverty writer [mark referring to first inscription] HS Chapman, my father [line pointing to second] Henry Chapman, my grandfather [line pointing to third] Drawn by Wm McCleverty - EA Chapman; on original mount in ink in Dr Hocken’s hand: Pawatanui. Rangihaiata’s Pah in 1846- now occupied by a Company of the 58th Reg.t under Captain Russell employed in the construction of roads. March 1849; label in ink in Dr Hocken’s hand: Title copied from back of picture. Rangihaeata’s pa was invested Aug. 2.nd 1846 by Major Last. v. Gov Gazette Aug.t 17th & N.Z. Spectator Aug 19th.
